🍂 Get Ready for Fall: Simple Decluttering Tips Inside!

Hi Reader,

I hope this message finds you well and easing back into Fall schedules of school activities. This week in North Carolina, the air has suddenly started to feel like fall, and I absolutely LOVE IT! 🍁

As the leaves begin to change and the temperatures drop, it’s the perfect time to prepare our homes for this cozy season.

I know that many of you may feel overwhelmed with the thought of switching out seasonal items and decluttering, but I’m here to remind you that it doesn’t have to be hard. In fact, it can be quite simple and even enjoyable!

Switching out Seasonal Items

As we transition into fall, it’s time to swap out those summer items for cozy autumn essentials. Here are a few tips to make this process easy:

  1. Create a Seasonal Inventory: 📝 Take a moment to list what you have for each season. This helps you know what to keep, what to donate, and what you might need to purchase. Don't overthink this, it can be as simple as making notes on a notepad!
  2. Use Clear Bins: 📦 Store your seasonal items in clear plastic bins with locking lids. This way, you can easily see what’s inside without rummaging through boxes. Try to use the same manufacturer for these bins so they stack well.
  3. Label Everything: 🏷️ Labeling bins not only helps you find items quickly but also makes it easier to put things away after use. If you want to take it up a notch, you can color code your bins by using colored index cards or different color Sharpies.
  4. Keep It Accessible: 🔑 Store seasonal items together in easily accessible places so you can locate all items next year.
  5. Make It a Family Activity: 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Get everyone involved! Turn on some music and make it a fun family project. Make it a game to see who can find the most items!

5 Guilt-Free Summer Items to Declutter!

As you switch out your summer items for fall, take a moment to go through these five categories and let go of anything that’s outdated, worn out, or expired:

  1. Swimwear: 🩴 Check your swimwear collection. If you have pieces that no longer fit or that you haven’t worn in a couple of seasons, it’s time to say goodbye!
  2. Sunscreen: ☀️ Look through your sunscreen stash. Toss any that are expired or that you didn’t use this summer. Fresh sunscreen is essential for healthy skin!
  3. Beach Towels: 🏖️ Evaluate your beach towels. If they’re worn out or you haven’t used them this year, consider donating them to someone who could use them.
  4. Summer Shoes: 👟 Go through your summer footwear. If you have sandals or flip-flops that are damaged or that you didn’t wear, it’s time to part ways.
  5. Outdoor Toys: 🎾 Check any outdoor toys or games. If they’re broken, faded, or your kids have outgrown them, it’s a great opportunity to declutter!

For the items that you are throwing away, add to your "Summer Seasonal Inventory"☝️list so you remember to purchase next year to replace these items.

I promise, if you take just a few minutes to sort through these items now, it’ll really pay off next summer. You’ll be doing your future self a big favor!

Get Well Flowers

Hi Reader, I hope this email finds you all in good spirits! As we are entering the last week of October, I wanted to share something personal that has been on my mind lately: unexpected health setbacks. Recently, I faced a little bump in the road that reminded me just how important it is to have a supportive home environment and family around us. When I had to take time to rest and focus on my recovery, I realized how much my organized home systems helped me. With everything in its place, I...

Home decorated for Halloween

Hi Reader, I hope you’re doing well! In my neighborhood, we’re already seeing Halloween decorations popping up everywhere! 🎃 It’s such a fun time of year, but it also means the holiday season is just around the corner. I don’t know about you, but every time I pull out those spooky decorations, I find myself wandering into the attic or storage areas, thinking, “Wow, I really need to clean this place out!” Sound familiar? Let’s be honest—life gets busy, and it’s easy to let clutter pile up. But...

Boone North Carolina, what would you truly miss if everything were swept away

Hi Reader, I hope this email finds you all safe and well. In my beautiful state of North Carolina, this past week has been filled with news of devastation and destruction from Hurricane Helene. So many images of homes, nature, roads just that were gone in an instant. Having spent the majority of my life here (especially my college years at Appalachian State University in Boone) I’ve always cherished the mountains and the serenity they bring. Seeing these majestic places and the wonderful,...
