Hi Reader,
I hope this message finds you all happy and enjoying the lovely coolness of Fall days and evenings! I’ve said it before, but I can’t help it—Fall is my absolute favorite season. I just love the crisp air, the beautiful colors of the changing leaves, and the excitement of the upcoming holidays. 🍁
But sometimes, it feels like the season sneaks up on us! Just last week, I drove by a house that looked like Halloween exploded all over it—huge inflatables, flashing lights, and spooky creatures everywhere! 👻 I found myself thinking, “Wait, what day is it?” And believe it or not, it was only September 12th! While I totally get that many people adore Halloween, that felt a bit early to me.
And then, just yesterday, I popped into a major retail store and was greeted by a whole display of Christmas items. What?! It’s September 21st—Christmas is still three months away!
With all this early holiday buzz, it’s easy to feel tempted to buy new decorations. This year, let’s try something different. Let’s focus on using what we already have before adding more to our spaces. 🏡Here are some simple and fun strategies to help you create a festive atmosphere without the clutter!
Decorating without Clutter
Set a Goal: Use What You Have
Before you dash out to buy new decorations, take a moment to explore your home. You might be pleasantly surprised by the hidden treasures you’ve forgotten! Gather your existing decorations and reflect on what you truly love and want to showcase this season.
And don’t forget to look to nature for beautiful decorating inspiration! Twigs, small potted mums, pumpkins and colorful leaves can add a warm, inviting touch to your decor. 🍂 These items can carry you through Fall, Halloween, and Thanksgiving—talk about getting the most bang for your buck!
If You Don’t Use It, Get Rid of It
If you come across items that no longer use or serve a purpose, consider letting them go. Donating or recycling these items not only declutters your space but also helps others in need.
Limit New Purchases
If you decide to add something new, set a clear limit. For example, choose one or two new items that truly resonate with you. This will keep your collection manageable and meaningful.
Avoid the Decorating Mistakes
- Buy New Because You Can’t Find What You Already Have: Take the time to search for your decorations before making any new purchases. A little effort can save you money and reduce clutter!
- Impulse Buy: Avoid the temptation to purchase on a whim. Instead, create a list of items you genuinely need or want, and stick to it.
- Overlook Storage Solutions: Before buying new items, consider how you will store them. If you don’t have space for new decorations, it’s a sign to rethink your purchases.
Remember, the goal is to create a warm and inviting home without the stress of clutter. By using what you already have and being intentional with new purchases, you can enjoy a beautiful holiday season without the overwhelm.
